8:32PM - Document binding

Hi folks, I'm looking for recommendations for somewhere I can get a thesis soft-bound (and possible photocopied too) quickly (preferably less than a day) and for not too much money. Somewhere around Haymarket, George street or Stockbridge would be best.

Thanks!

6:55PM

Does anyone here have a copy of the PEP Complete plan from Scottish Slimmers lying about?  I've lost my copy!  I'd be willing to pay.

6:04PM - Top Table

I guess most people out there already know about this, but as I only just discovered it, so maybe it will help some other people out too!  Top table.com list loads of Edinburgh restaurants with special offers on at the moment:

http://www.toptable.com/en-gb/venues/find/advanced/?l=464&date=2009-11-08&timeband=22-05&covers=2&offersonly=true

Can't believe I'd never found it before.  Apologies if this is old news to everyone!  I am now going for the 3 for £30 James Thomson offer at Rhubarb tomorrow as a result, so it is worth it!

3:05PM - The dissolution of an aneristic bulk

There is little point in mourning the loss of something that was never worth having in the first place and should never have been. At least I know I can trust my instincts and should never have ignored them. Last night someone asked me to think about how I get myself into these situations and the answer is simple - low self esteem.

Why? Fear. Because if you're already down it seems like it can't get worse and that seems better than living with the fear of losing something worth having. If you think you deserve to be with someone who brings out the worst in you, you will be and it will bring out the worst in you.

That doesn't necessarily make them a bad person, just not the person for you and it's worse when you bring out the worst in them too.

So now the only thing which bothers me is myself, my current state, and how to get back to where and who I should be.

2:21PM - 2005

Aww...

I've been looking back on my livejournal over summer 2005.

I was writing about G8 protest related stuff and realised I'd blogged about the protests in Edinburgh at the time (haha, not very eloquently admittedly, but it's still a record of what I saw/felt/thought when it was all happening). It was sort of the beginning of any political awareness that I've developed too, so I like having a record of it on a personal level.

Anyway, I carried on reading and it brought back so many memories. There were happy memories, sad memories, mixed up memories, confuzzled memories - but most of all, chaotic memories.

It was in the first few months of [info]cr4k and I living together, when we were working at the Pleasance. Highlights included:

- pink vomit

- accidental poisonings (the moral of the story was never use cooking utensils to make dread soap with)

- worrying about work (the one constant in my life)

- people I didn't know turning up in my bedroom at 4am and telling me that everything was ok, because they'd put Matt in the recovery position.

- pissing around online making cartoons that inadvertantly offended our friends (sorry [info]year_x and [info]superbagelboy, I just found the oh-so-hilarious 'tall tales' cartoon and felt a bit bad).

- my final edg&r freshers' week. The one where Doggeroo the rock kangaroo went missing *sob*.

A fun-filled couple of months.

12:29PM - Studying in cafés

Does anyone have any recommendations of cafés in the city centre where it's good to study? For me, good tends to mean: you don't feel guilty for not having a steaming hot cup of tea in front of you at all times, and you can have multiple cups of tea in succession without any strange looks, there are fairly comfortable tables & chairs where you can write, and probably not the kind of café that encourages lots of young kids in to play.

Thank you everyone for responding in such detail and length! I now have a fantastic list of places to use over the next month! You will all have helped when I pass my exam :-)

2:46PM - Automotive stupidity

My boyfriend worked as a mechanic for a couple decades, and as such he's pretty much Seen It All--you know, the electric tape over that pesky oil light, the music up loud to drown out that funny noise...but this one really stood out.

Scenario: customer walks into a parts store and requests something simple....say, spark plug wires. And this dialogue follows:

Clerk: What kind of car is it?
Customer: A fodo. (The r-dropping makes it worse somehow--I swear I thought it was some exotic European make I'd never heard of before.)
Clerk: Yeeesss...but what KIND of four-door is it?
Customer: It a V8.

And the worst part is, he says that not only did this happen REGULARLY, but about three times out of five the next information they would come out with was the color of the paint.

Because the fact that your car has four doors will really narrow down the specific parts you need. O.o

12:20AM - Civics class stupidity.

I'm a senior in high school and the things I hear from the mouths of my peers are simply stunning. I just want to either bang my head against the wall or burst into tears on a daily basis.

In the beginning of the semester, a student asked, "Do we have a prime minister?" (We are in the US. This should not be a question you need to ask as a 17/18 year old.)

Yesterday a student asked if women could run for president. I go to an all-girls school and we just finished watching a movie about the women's rights movement. Not to mention, where has she been for the last couple of years? A woman just did run for president, idiot.

I genuinely fear for the future. There are some relatively intelligent and informed students in the class and the school as a whole. But the rest...I just do not understand how they will ever survive in life. D: Even more insanely stupid things happen quite often. I could fill a journal.

6:27PM - Tarot cards

Hello, could anyone suggest a place in town that might sell tarot cards? I've not really looked anywhere yet, apart from apothecary in newington and they didn't seem to sell that kind of thing :)

many thanks

12:43AM - Just when I was doing so well too

Tonight I went to the DDS AGM. The meeting itself was... well, a meeting. But at least there was some gossip via Mike and that nasty instructor from SWASH last year got kicked out of his high and mighty Fed (BFHS) position. The one whose class Atropine and I walked out on. That does make me happy, the guy was an arse.

Afterwards there was pubbage which was meant to be one drink as I had had no food but turned into three. The chat was good and it was really nice to sit and chat sword and music with like-minded people.

I did agree to help Iain publicise DDS though - it needs some structured promotion. And I will try and get some pictures for it.

6:38PM - Chair for sale!

I have an awesome foam sofa which folds out into a really comfy double guest-bed, and I need to sell it off before I move out on the 17th. I'm kind of sad to have to get rid of it - it's an awesome little thing - but my storage locker doesn't have enough space for it.

For specs:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6279309/c_1/1|category_root|Home+and+furniture|14417894/c_2/3|15701232|Sofabeds+and+futons|14418251/c_3/4|cat_14418251|Foam+sofabeds|14418256.htm

Yes, it's the same one from Argos. It's a little dusty and one of the armrests is a little loose (it came that way), but it's otherwise still in great condition.

If someone wants to take it off my hands and can pick it up themselves for £70 (or for £90, I'll hire a Man With A Van to deliver it), give me a shout.

4:43PM - mapping edinburgh for wee wheels

Ok, I am hoping for some assistance and helpful advice! Based on the pavement disasters and lack of communication while I've been in town, I see that there's a sore need for a database of useable, wheelchair and scooter accessible pathways round the city. It would need the detail of every single pavement in the city to be shown. I know they used to provide maps of accessible cycle paths in the city, but there is no source of information for kerb edges and crossings.

10:28AM - Kiddies wall hangings shop?

Hello good people of edinburgh :-)

I'm wanting to get my son one of those wall hanging calendar things, you know the nursery school ones with lots of little stick on bits for the day, month, year, weather, season etc I've found a couple on the internet (http://www.childrens-rooms.co.uk/Wall-Decorations/Wall-Hangings/My-Calendar-Blue-Wall-Hanging.html) , but i'd really like to buy/see it in person.

Does anyone know of any shops which sell them in edinburgh?  Thanks :-)

7:56PM - Pledge Fail

This is hilarious. Representative Todd Akin recites the pledge of allegiance, to make a point about the pledge of allegiance, and messes up the words.

10:39PM - Just...stop opening your mouth, please.

My Calculus teacher is pretty cool, and if you say something stupid in his class, he'll let you know. There are only eight people in class, and you would think it wouldn't be very interesting, but it is.

Today, he was telling us about Frank Lloyd Wright, a famous architect. One girl didn't know who he was (and I didn't either) so she asked him. Before he could respond, another girl, who is kind of stupid, said, "Don't you know, he's the flying brothers." And she made little 'wing' motions with her hands.

I burst out laughing at her, and so did the teacher. Eventually, he calmed down enough to inform her that, no, he wasn't one of the Wright brothers. Their names are Orville and Weber. I've known that since fifth or sixth grade. And let's not comment on the grammar fail of 'he' also being 'brothers'.
